Marina Georgieva Comes to Union

1. FC Union Berlin have signed defender Marina Georgieva to the women's first team with immediate effect. The 28-year-old had been without a club since the summer.

Coming to Köpenick via St. Pölten, Potsdam, and Sand

Marina Georgieva began her football career at FK Hainburg and ASK Bruck/Leitha before moving to then Austrian Bundesliga newcomers SKN St. Pölten at the age of fifteen. She played 19 first and 15 second division matches for the Blue-Yellows and celebrated the Austrian league title in 2015 and 2016. Additionally, she won the Austrian Cup three times.

In January 2017, Georgieva left her homeland to join 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam's U20s in the 2. Bundesliga. There, the then 19-year-old quickly established herself as a regular player and was nominated for the Austrian national team for the first time later that same year. She was part of the squad during the 2017 European Championship, when the Austrian women celebrated their biggest ever success in reaching the semi-finals. Georgieva has now won 48 international caps.

After one and a half years in Potsdam with 26 second division matches under her belt, Georgieva moved to the Bundesliga club SC Sand for the 2018/19 season. Over the following four years, she developed into the defensive leader and made 55 Bundesliga appearances, scoring three times. Her performances caught the attention of the French top club Paris Saint-Germain, who signed her in 2022. She played nine competitive matches at PSG, including two in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. A year later, she moved to Italy to join AC Florenz, for whom she played 49 times over two seasons until last summer.
