Further Playing Time on the Rhine:
Marin Ljubičić Loaned to Düsseldorf
Marin Ljubičić will be leaving 1. FC Union Berlin for the rest of the season. Union are loaning the striker to second division club Fortuna Düsseldorf for the remainder of 2025/26.
A debut to remember
With 36 goals and four further assists in 100 competitive games for Austria’s Linzer ASK, the 23-year-old Croatian moved to Berlin-Köpenick last winter and showed in his very first appearance that he knows where the goal is in the German Bundesliga. He came on as a substitute with Union a goal up at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on matchday 21, scoring to double the lead just moments later. He had previously achieved the same feat at Hajduk Split and LASK, so the continuation of his “goals on debut” series was assured.
For the time being, that goal was to remain his only one in a Union jersey until the Croatian scored two more against Mainz and then Augsburg this January. The 21-time Croatian U21 international has three goals and one assist in 15 games so far for Union.
Comment on the loan
“At Marin's age, playing time is an important factor in his development. From this perspective, the loan to Fortuna makes a lot of sense for everyone involved. We will continue to closely monitor his progress and are confident that he will also score goals in Düsseldorf,” explained Horst Heldt, director of men's professional football at 1. FC Union Berlin.
