Breton Port City Calls for Midfielder
Lucas Tousart Signs for Stade Brest
After two years with 1. FC Union Berlin, Lucas Tousart is returning to his French homeland. The 28-year-old midfielder is joining Stade Brestois 29, ending his time in the Bundesliga for now after 127 appearances in the German top flight.
Experiencing both sides of Berlin
Tousart moved from Hertha BSC to the Alte Försterei in the Summer of 2023 to add his international experience to the squad in what was then the UEFA Champions League season. The Frenchman made five appearances in Europe's premier club competition, setting up Sheraldo Becker's goal to make it 2-0 against Sporting Braga – a match that Union ultimately lost 3-2.
Tousart was also a regular fixture in the team in domestic competitions. In 40 further competitive matches in red and white, he impressed with his tireless running, strength in tackles and reliability. He is now continuing his career in Ligue 1, where he hopes to make an important contribution under coach Éric Roy.
Comments on the farewell
"I came to Union for a season I had never experienced before – from the Champions League to staying up in the last second,” said Tousart on his departure. “We learned a lot from that as a team, but also personally. My time with Union was intense and formative, which is why I would like to thank the club and, above all, the fans for their support. Now the right moment has come for me to return to France, which I am very much looking forward to.”
"During his two years with us, Lucas always gave his all on the pitch and showed that he is a consummate professional with his heart in the right place,” added Horst Heldt, Union’s director of men’s professional football. “He was also a great asset to our team on a personal level. He identified fully with Union and was an important part of the team during his time with us. We would like to thank him for his time with us and wish him all the best in his new role in France."
