Artful in the corner:
László Bénes with the next goal of the month?
After Leopold Querfeld's success in April, 1. FC Union Berlin is also represented in the voting for Goal of the Month in May. Midfield star László Bénes now aims to become the first Slovak to win the award.
In the home match against SV Werder Bremen, the 84th minute was running when Bénes - having just been on the field for a few seconds - perfectly converted a pass from Tom Rothe and sent the ball into the right corner of the net from a half-left position in the penalty area. Werder's goalkeeper Michael Zetterer, like everyone else in the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, could only watch in helpless amazement, and this impressive goal not only equalized the score to 2-2 but also marked the next point gain for the Eisernen, extending their unbeaten streak to eight matches.
A victory for the 27-year-old would further enhance the impressive record of 1. FC Union Berlin in this award: Recently, Silvio (September 2011), Sebastian Polter (September 2018), Marcel Hartel (January 2019), Andreas Voglsammer (January 2022), and the duo of Sven Michel and Kevin Behrens (April 2022) have won. Freshly represented on the list is also the winning goal by Leopold Querfeld from April 2025.
Now all Unioner are called upon! Until 28 June 2025, here you can vote for László Bénes.
