László Bénes to Kayserispor for one year

Midfielder László Bénes is leaving the men's professional team of 1. FC Union Berlin and is joining Süper Lig representative Kayserispor from Central Turkey on loan.

One for the special goals

One year after his transfer to the Alte Försterei, the 27-year-old is leaving Union again for the time being. Benes can look back on 25 competitive matches, two goals, and one assist. He and all Union fans however will especially remember those two goals as each secured an important point in the Bundesliga.

He came on in the first game of last season in the 72nd minute with Union a goal down against 1. FSV Mainz 05, equalising within two minutes – with his supposedly weaker foot.

Then, on the third-to-last matchday of 2024/25 – with safety already secured and seven games unbeaten on the horizon – the technician showcased his qualities as a super-sub. Against SV Werder Bremen, he scored again to level the scores at 2-2 – this time just seconds after his substitution. The shot from the inside left position into the top right corner even made it into the selection for the goal of the month for May.

In the 2025/26 season, the left-footer will now hunt for goals in the Süper Lig for Kayserispor – possibly as early as Sunday, after the opener against Beşiktaş JK was postponed.

The view on the loan

„László is a player we could always rely on – especially his qualities as a sub helped us last season. Of course, he also wants more playing time, and we did not want to stand in his way. We wish him all the best and will keep an eye on his further development,“ said Horst Heldt, Managing Director of men’s professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin.
