Loanee Extends his Contract in Köpenick:
Livan Burcu to Stay at Union
Winger Livan Burcu is to remain at 1. FC Union Berlin. The 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan at second division side 1. FC Magdeburg, has extended his contract and will remain as a permanent fixture in the men's first team squad.
Consistency and enthusiasm on the wing
Burcu was born in Frankfurt am Main and came through the youth ranks of both FSV and SG Eintracht Frankfurt before making the move to Beşiktaş J.K. in early 2021. He returned to Germany in 2022 when he joined SV Sandhausen’s U19’s.
In the 2023/24 season, he made the leap to the professional ranks of the 3. Liga, having previously led the U19s to the Oberliga title with 21 goals in 26 league games. There, Burcu established himself as a regular player in his first professional season. The goal-scoring left winger impressed with strong performances and made his debut for the Turkish U21 national team in March 2024.
Burcu moved to 1. FC Union Berlin for the 2024/25 season but was immediately loaned to 2. Liga side 1. FC Magdeburg where he played 32 games, scoring three goals and setting up nine more. With his flair and creativity, he became a regular fixture on the left wing and was selected for Kicker magazine’s team of the week several times.
Comments on the contract extension
"I am very grateful for the trust Union placed in me,” said Burcu on the announcement of his permanent deal. “Last year's loan helped me enormously to develop both as a player and as a person. Now I'm looking forward to taking the next step at Union and taking on even more responsibility on the pitch. I know that I want to continue to improve."
Horst Heldt, 1. FC Union Berlin’s director of men’s professional football, had this to say: “Livan made excellent use of his loan spell last season and took a big step forward in his development. He has proven that he has the potential to play in the Bundesliga. With his commitment and willingness to learn, he fits perfectly into our plans. We are convinced that he will play a bigger role in the coming season.”
