Union's Footballers of the Year:

Lisa Heiseler and Frederick Rönnow Crowned by the Fans

Since 1980, the editorial team of the matchday program have annually called on all Unioner to vote for their number one player of the previous season.

This summer, for the first time, Union's women's player of the year was also elected. While the men's team were able to secure league safety in the end, the women achieved their first ever promotion to the top flight as champions of the 2. Bundesliga. By the end of July, over 6,600 Union fans cast their votes in the elections.

Captain Heiseler receives premiere award

The captain of the women's team has been with Union since 2012, progressing through the youth to the first team. In the past season, she not only led her team to promotion but was also the the 2. Liga's top scorer with 22 goals. 3,441 Union fans (52% of the vote) chose Heiseler.

On September 7, she will recieve her honour before playing a match in the Bundesliga for the first time in the opener against Nürnberg.

Frederik Rönnow completes his hat trick

What had only ever been previously achieved by Jan Glinker (2007–2009) has now by Union's current number one. For the third consecutive time, the Union fans have voted Frederik Rönnow as Union Footballer of the Year – with a convincing 3,221 votes (48.5% share). In the past season, the Dane played in 30 matches (28 in the league, two in the Cup) and kept nine clean sheets. With a save rate of 67%, he proved once again to be the backbone of the team. In addition, he, along with St. Pauli's Nikola Vasilj, had the best penalty statistics of all Bundesliga goalkeepers, saving four out of five spot-kicks against him. He will be given his award on Saturday at the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart.
