Young Defender Out on Loan

Leon Prosche Joins Erzgebirge Aue

1. FC Union Berlin have loaned Leon Prosche to FC Erzgebirge Aue for the 2026/27 season, with the 19-year-old defender to gain important playing time at the Regionalliga club. Prosche extended his contract with the Union beyond the U-19s level just a few weeks ago

The Next Step in His Development in the Erzgebirge

As a member of Union's academy since the U-13s, Prosche has been wearing the Union jersey since 2019, developing into one of the most consistent defenders there. He played in 24 out of 25 possible matches for the U-19s in the 2025/26 season, playing the full 90 minutes every single time. He has also gained European experience in the UEFA Youth League, where he played all six matches, while also making three appearances for the German U-17s in the 2023/24 season.

With his speed, tackling, flexibility, and the ability to play both centrally and on the flanks, he has made a compelling case for stepping up to the professional level. The loan to Aue is intended to allow him to continue this development.

The reaction to the Loan

“Leon has developed excellently in our academy and brings many qualities that we appreciate in his position," said Horst heldt, Union's director of men's prefessional football, on the deal. "Regular appearances in men's football are crucial for the transition to professional football. Aue offers him an environment where he can prove himself and take on responsibility. We will closely watch his path.”
