A New Chapter Begins in the 2. Liga:
Lennart Grill Signs for Dresden
1. FC Union Berlin and Lennart Grill are going their separate ways. The 26-year-old goalkeeper is leaving Köpenick and will play for SG Dynamo Dresden with immediate effect.
Second and third division experience, and trips to Europe with Union
Over 100 games in Germany's third division helped Grill make the leap to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga in the summer of 2020. Five games and a loan spell in Norway two years later were enough to convince Union to sign the 6’3” goalkeeper on loan, before finally making the move permanent the following summer. During his time at the Alte Försterei, he kept goal in eight games, five of which came in the successful 2022/23 season, in which Union qualified for the UEFA Champions League. He also played one game in the UEFA Europa League and two in the DFB Pokal.
Most recently, the former U21 international was on loan in the 2. Bundesliga, first at VfL Osnabrück, then at Eintracht Braunschweig and during the 2024/25 season at Greuther Fürth.
Comment on the farewell
Union’s director of men’s professional football, Horst Heldt, meanwhile had this to say of the goalkeeper: “When Lennart was here with us, he always put himself at the service of the team, was always reliable and also played his part in the good team spirit in the dressing room. We wanted to accommodate his desire for a clear sporting future and wish him every success and all the best in his professional and personal life.”
