Defender to Stay at Union

Judith Steinert Signs a New Deal

1. FC Union Berlin and defender Judith Steinert have agreed to extend her contract ahead of schedule. The Mosbach-born player celebrated promotion with Union last season and will now continue to wear the red and white jersey in the Bundesliga.

Since her arrival in the summer of 2024, Steinert has become a central figure in Union's defence. Whether in one-on-one situations, positioning, or build-up play, her calmness and clarity has been a positive influence on the entire team. But the 30-year-old is also important in the attack; last season, she set up six goals for her teammates and scored one herself.

In addition, with over 150 Bundesliga appearances, she is the second most experienced top flight player in the Union squad. Her record from the promotion season in particular underlines her value, as she played in 23 of 26 possible games, contributing significantly to the 2. Liga title. It is also remarkable that the defender has never seen a red card in her long career, so she impresses not only with her sporting achievements but also with her personal qualities.

Comments on the contract extension

“I feel incredibly at home at Union and in the city of Berlin,” said a delighted Steinert on the signing of her new deal. “The team, the environment, and the support are very special. We have achieved great things together, and I look forward to continuing to give my all for this club.”

"Judith is a crucial part of our defence and she impressively demonstrated last season how important she is for our stability and our overall structure. Her commitment and self-confidence on the pitch make her a player we can rely on in every situation. We are very happy that she will continue on our journey with us," explained Jennifer Zietz, director of women's professional football at 1. FC Union Berlin.
