Next International to add Strength on the Flanks

Jill Janssens Signs for Union

1. FC Union Berlin have reinforced their women's team for the upcoming season. 22-year-old right back Jill Janssens is transferring from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to Union in the summer.

The next Belgian international with a past in Leuven

Looking at Janssens' career, the parallels to her compatriots Amber Tysiak and Hannah Eurlings quickly become apparent. Born in Leuven and already playing there in her youth, Janssen took her first steps in professional football at Oud-Heverlee Leuven. Shortly after her 16th birthday, she made her debut in the Jupiler Pro League and played 88 matches for the club over the next four years, scoring 17 goals. In numerous games, she played alongside both Hannah Eurlings and Amber Tysiak.

She made her debut for the Belgian national team, still before her 18th birthday, in 2021, and since then has made 45 international appearances, scoring four goals. At the European Championship in the summer of 2025, she - like Tysiak - was in the starting lineup for all three group matches. Eurlings started the first two matches before missing the last game due to injury.

Since the 2023/24 season, Janssens has been playing in the Bundesliga for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, where she quickly became a key player, appearing in 67 competitive matches over the past three years, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists. She missed only five Bundesliga matches during this time. Next season, she will continue her journey – together with familiar faces – at 1. FC Union Berlin, but before that, however, will visit Berlin with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on May 10, 2026, to play for the first time at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Reactions to the Transfer

“Union are a very exciting and ambitious club that have increasingly established themselves in the Bundesliga over the course of the season. The conversations with the club, the conditions, and their ambitions quickly convinced me. I am very much looking forward to being a part of it from the summer,” said Janssens on her move.

Jennifer Zietz, Managing Director of Women's Professional Football, said, “Jill has become a key player in Hoffenheim and in the Belgian national team over the past few years. We are very happy that she has decided to take the step to us. The fact that she already knows two players in the squad well, Hannah and Amber, will additionally ease her integration.”
