From the Alte Försterei to the Betzenberg:

Ivan Prtajin Signs for 1. FC Kaiserslautern

1. FC Union Berlin and 1. FC Kaiserslautern have agreed on a transfer for centre forward Ivan Prtajin. The 29-year-old Croatian is leaving Union after one season and will now play in the 2. Bundesliga.

A classic number 9 with experience in the lower leagues

Prtajin joined Union Berlin last summer having impressed at SV Wehen Wiesbaden, where he scored 13 goals in the second division. The Croatian made his debut for Union in the pre-season friendlies, scoring his first goal in his very first game to seal a 4-0 victory against Regionalliga side BSG Chemie Leipzig. He made his Bundesliga debut in the away game against VfB Stuttgart at the beginning of December. The right-footed player went on to make a total of five competitive appearances for 1. FC Union Berlin.

Prtajin has played 31 games in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals and providing two assists. He will now take this experience, to the seventh-placed-team in the league last season.

The reactions to his departure

“I would like to thank the fans and the club for my time here,” said Prtajin on the announcement of his move to the Rhineland-Palatinate. “Even though I would have liked to have played more, I learned a lot at Union and was able to experience the club and the city very intensively over the past twelve months. Now it's time for a new and exciting chapter, which I am very much looking forward to.”

“Ivan has shown every day that he is highly professional, willing to learn and always pushes himself to the limit,” said Horst Heldt, Union’s director of men’s professional football at Union, meanwhile. “Even though he didn't get the playing time he wanted here, we would like to thank Ivan for his commitment and wish him all the best and every success in Kaiserslautern.”
