Northern Irish-Austrian Goalscorer

Campbell was born in 2000 to a Northern Irish mother in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg. In her hometown of Feldkirch, she initially played in the youth teams of SC Tisis, FC Sulz and finally FC Blau-Weiß Feldkirch. The striker made her debut for Blau-Weiß at the age of just 14 and scored 26 goals in ten league games in her first season. Campbell first received an invitation for a trial with German Bundesliga club SC Freiburg in the summer of 2015, but did not join them until eight and a half years later.

After her successful debut season in women's football, Campbell moved to Austrian second division club FC Rot-Weiß Rankweil for the 2015/16 season. There, she scored 38 goals in 48 competitive games over the next four years. After finishing school, she moved to FFC Vorderland in the Austrian top flight at the age of 19. After a brief settling-in period, Campbell resumed her regular feats in front of goal, scoring 35 times in 66 Bundesliga matches over four and a half years. In November 2022, she made her debut for the Austrian national team, for whom she has since scored nine goals in 20 appearances.

In January 2024, Campbell finally moved to the German Bundesliga to join SC Freiburg. In her first six months, she scored three goals in twelve games. So far this season, she has scored one goal in twelve competitive games. After a break due to injury, she has recently played twice for the U20 team. From next season, Campbell will be hunting for goals for 1. FC Union Berlin.

Reactions to the transfer

“The development of the women's department at Union is very impressive,” said Campbell on her move to Berlin. “The ambition and appreciation shown to me by those responsible were decisive factors in my decision to move. I am very much looking forward to playing here from next season, and especially to the home games at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. In the coming season, I want to use my strengths and experience to help us establish ourselves in the Bundesliga.”

Jennifer Zietz, Managing Director of Women's Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin said: ‘In Eileen, we are signing a versatile attacking player who has already proven at national and international level that she is dangerous in front of goal and causes problems for opposing defences. We are therefore very pleased that she is joining us and will strengthen our team in the Bundesliga.”
