100-Plus Appearances for Union and Counting
Celine Frank Remains at Union
1. FC Union Berlin and midfielder Celine Frank are continuing their long-term collaboration in the Bundesliga. The 26-year-old, who has been playing for the women’s team since 2015 – with only a brief interruption – has extended her contract.
A regular fixture in front of the defence
Frank moved from the youths of 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam to 1. FC Union Berlin’s U17s in the Summer of 2014, before moving up to the first team a year later, alongside current captain Lisa Heiseler. About a month after her 17th birthday, she made her debut for Union in August 2015. In her debut season, in which she made a total of nine appearances, Union were promoted to the 2. Bundesliga North where Frank made her first five second division appearances there in the 2016/17 season.
Celine left the team at the beginning of 2018 for a year abroad in Australia and returned after a year and a half for the 2019/20 season. This makes her the third longest-serving player in the current Union squad behind Lisa Heiseler and Latoya Bach. After eight years, Frank celebrated her second promotion to the 2. Bundesliga with Union’s women in the summer of 2024. The defensive specialist played in 21 of 22 league games that season and also underlined her goal-scoring prowess with eight – her personal best to date. She played the full 90 minutes in both promotion play-off matches against SV Henstedt-Ulzburg.
Frank is also an integral part of the midfield in the current season, having played in 22 competitive matches so far. She has been in the starting line-up for 13 of the last 14 league games. She scored in both the home and away games against direct promotion rivals SV Meppen and also found the net in the 6-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach, which officially secured the club's first promotion to the Bundesliga. A few weeks earlier, Frank made her 100th competitive appearance for Union against SC Sand. Union's number 6 now has 105 appearances to her name, scoring 25 goals.
Reactions to the contract extension
“Union has been my footballing home for years, so I'm delighted that I'll continue to play at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in the future,” said Frank on her new contract. “We've achieved a lot in recent years and want to remain successful in the Bundesliga. I want to play my part in that.”
Jennifer Zietz, Managing Director of Women's Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin, explained: “Celine has performed consistently well for us in recent years and has been one of the pillars of our team. With her style of play and her experience at the club, she embodies the Union DNA – qualities that will continue to be valuable to our team in the coming season. We are delighted that she will remain part of our team.”
