Safe Hands Staying

Cara Bösl Signs a Contract Extension

Goalkeeper Cara Bösl and 1. FC Union Berlin have agreed on an early contract extension. The number one will remain, having been an integral member of the side that celebrated promotion to the Bundesliga with Union last season.

An important presence between the posts

Since her transfer in the summer of 2024, the Rüsselsheim born stopper quickly established herself as Union’s reliable number one. With her Bundesliga and Champions League experience, she gave Union’s defence added stability right from the start – her competitive debut will long remain in the memory, when she became the match winner in the 2024/25 DFB Pokal first round penalty shoot-out against FSV Gütersloh, saving two spot-kicks and securing her team's place in the next round.

She continued to impress throughout the rest of the season with her strong reflexes, courage in one-on-one situations and confidence when playing out with the ball.  Bösl played 25 of 26 possible games that season, keeping 13 clean sheets. With only 17 goals conceded, she played a decisive role in winning the 2. Bundesliga and with it promotion to the German top flight. Now as co-captain, she has kept two clean sheets this season.

Comments on the extension

"I feel very comfortable here in Köpenick and it's always something special to play in front of our fans in a stadium with this atmosphere,” said a delighted Bösl on the inking of her new deal. “We are slowly establishing ourselves in the first division and I will continue to do everything I can to give the team stability and support. I really appreciate the trust the club has placed in me and I look forward to continuing to be part of this team and continuing on this path with Union.”

“We are very pleased that Cara has extended her contract with us,” said Jennifer Zietz, director of women’s professional football at 1. FC Union Berlin. “She is an outstanding goalkeeper who impresses on the pitch with her quality and experience and also shapes the team with her personality. Her central role within the team was a key factor in our decision. We continue to rely on her support and look forward to many successful moments together."
