From Frankfurt to Köpenick:
Anna Aehling Comes to the Alte Försterei
1. FC Union Berlin are strengthening their squad for the coming season with the addition of Anna Aehling. The 24-year-old defender will move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Union in the summer.
A player rich in Bundesliga and international experience
Aehling took her first steps in football in her hometown of Coesfeld in the Münsterland region with DJK Eintracht Coesfeld and SG 06 Coesfeld. She then moved to the youth team of FSV Gütersloh in 2009, for whom she made her 2. Bundesliga debut in 2018 at the age of 16. Over the next two and a half years, Aehling made 48 appearances in the second division for FSV.
In January 2021, she moved to the United States to pursue her studies, where she spent a year abroad and played for the Indiana University Bloomington team. She made 29 appearances for the Indiana Hoosiers in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
After returning to Germany, she was signed by Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2022. She made her Bundesliga debut for SGE in March against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. In the following three seasons, she has made a further 27 Bundesliga appearances for Eintracht as well as four times in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round. From next season, Aehling will continue her career at 1. FC Union Berlin.
Three facts about Anna
Aehling has played 34 international matches for various German national youth teams. She was runner-up in the European Championships with the U17s in 2018 and the U19s in 2019.
Aehling has already played alongside Leonie Köster and Cara Bösl at Eintracht Frankfurt in recent years. She also knows Tomke Schneider from her seven appearances for the SGE U20 team.
In her Bundesliga debut against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Aehling scored her first Bundesliga goal with a header, which also secured a 3-2 victory. It remains her only goal in the top flight to date.
