Danish Talent Brings Pace and Goal Threat
Alma Aagaard Signs for Union
1. FC Union Berlin have strengthened their women's first team with the signing of Alma Marie Plank Aagaard. The 19-year-old attacking player is considered one of the best young talents in Danish football and is coming to the capital from Danish first division club FC Nordsjælland.
A Rapid rise
Aagaard began her footballing life at the age of four at her home-town club, Snekkersten IF, where she initially played alongside the boys. She then moved to FC Helsingør, where she joined the youth academy.
At 14, Aagaard moved to FC Nordsjælland’s academy, where she quickly established herself as one of their most promising talents. Having made her first team debut in March 2023, by September she was a permanent fixture in the Kvindeliga squad. She celebrated a Danish league and Cup double in that, her first, season and capped it all by scoring in the 2-1 Cup final win over Brøndby IF.
She made her real breakthrough in the 2024/25 season, however, finishing up as the third-highest scorer in the Danish league with eleven goals in competitive matches. Her furious start to the season won’t be forgotten, as she scored all four goals in a 4-0 win over Kolding IF.
Aagaard also attracted attention early on from the Danish Football Association's youth national teams. She scored one goal in nine appearances for the U16s, followed by an impressive ten goals in eleven for the U17s. Now, she is a regular member of the U19 side, for whom she has already made 27 appearances and scored eleven goals.
Three facts about Alma
She won the Danish double with Nordsjælland in 2023/24.
She has scored 22 goals in 47 games for Denmark’s youth teams.
Off the pitch, she enjoys travelling whenever the fixture list allows.
The views on the transfer
"The move to Union is a great opportunity for me and something very special, as it is my first time playing abroad,” said a delighted Aagaard on the signing of her deal at Union. “I want to contribute my qualities here, develop myself further and play my part in the team's success. I'm really looking forward to both the Bundesliga and Berlin."
“In Alma, we have deliberately signed a dangerous player in front of goal who, despite her young age, has already gained a lot of experience in the youth national teams and the top Danish league,” said Union’s director of women’s professional football, Jennifer Zietz. “She has enormous potential for development and we are convinced that she can enrich our attacking play.”
