Contract Extension for Aljoscha Kemlein

1. FC Union Berlin and midfielder Aljoscha Kemlein will continue their journey together. The 20-year-old, who has been wearing the red and white Union shirt since 2016, will continue to be an important part of the Bundesliga team.

A calm and composed presence in midfield

German under-21 international Kemlein has established himself in the men's first team at 1. FC Union Berlin through his technical and entertaining, yet watchful abilities. The Berlin-born player moved from the Berliner Amateuren to Union’s academy, progressed through all the youth teams and made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 19 in the first game of the 2023/24 season against 1. FSV Mainz 05.

In January 2024, he moved on loan to FC St. Pauli for the second half of the season, where he made 17 appearances and played a key role in the club's promotion to the Bundesliga. Back in Köpenick, the home-grown player gained further valuable experience in the German top flight, making 15 appearances for Union. His first Bundesliga goal was not long in coming. Kemlein headed home in the 18th minute to give Union a 1-0 lead over Holstein Kiel, paving the way for a 2-0 away win at the Storks.

An injury slowed the 20-year-old down in the current season, but he wants to bring his calmness and composure back to the pitch for the new season – now with a long-term perspective at Union.

Views on the contract extension:

“Union are my club, I grew up and took my first steps in professional football here,” said a delighted Kemlein on his new deal. “I am highly motivated for the coming season, want to develop further and make my contribution on the pitch. Helping this club achieve its goals, growing together with the team and continuing this path with Union means an incredible amount to me. I can't wait to get back into action.”

Horst Heldt, director of men’s professional football at 1. FC Union Berlin explained: “We have been together with Aljoscha since his youth and see great potential in him. He already has a lot of quality and has proven his understanding of the game and his style at the highest level. Nevertheless, we see that Aljoscha is developing further every day and are therefore convinced that he will play an even more important role for our team in the coming years.”
