60 Years of 1. FC Union Berlin:
A Special Shirt for a Big Anniversary
At least ten hours had passed when the lights went out in Hall 34. The Rathenau Halls in Oberschöneweide had cooled down considerably, the temperature had dropped to near freezing – not the best conditions for photographing people in thin sports shirts. But Union were not founded at sunset on a balmy summer evening.
No, it was on a gloomy, cold Thursday afternoon in January that footballers and workers, officials and guests of honour gathered in the clubhouse of the Oberschöneweide Transformatorenwerk to found their club.
Sixty years later, Union are back at the old workplace of so many of its founder members, attempting to capture the spirit of this historic place in order to present something very special: an anniversary jersey that embodies the history of 1. FC Union Berlin.
Yesterday, 1. FC Union Berlin celebrated their 60th anniversary: 60 years of passion, solidarity, resilience, and countless unforgettable moments. All of which is now being celebrated with a special commemorative jersey!
The bright red anniversary shirt is inspired by the spirit of the 1960s, yet remains classic with white accents on the collar and sleeves, and the wording “Eisern Union”, curving on the back of the neck. The chest is adorned with a special version of the Union emblem, reminiscent of earlier kits. As a lovely detail, a 60-year Union logo designed by the active fan scene can be found on the lower hem.

The anniversary jersey from equipment supplier adidas is now available in sizes 128–3XL in all Union stores and directly from adidas. To mark the selection of the 60-year legends team, a special jersey variant is available for each of the eleven players in addition to the regular jersey. This is printed with an individually designed back number and comes in an exclusive anniversary box, which contains other additional selected anniversary items. The limited edition box is available exclusively online at the Union Zeughaus.
