First action as Union Berlin host Brondby IF

The 2019/20 season officially begins on Saturday at 15:30 as 1. FC Union Berlin mark the opening of the new campaign at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei against Danish side Brondby IF.

As customary during the season opener, the club has put on a host of events for supporters. Tickets can be purchased here. Gates will open at 13:30 and around an hour before kick-off, Urs Fischer's squad and backroom team will be presented and introduced to the fans. After the game, there is an opportunity to meet the players at an autograph session.

Summer Review: Union active in the transfer market, Brondby finish fourth

Oliver Ruhnert, Union's Director for Professional Football, has been busy this summer, strengthening the squad ahead of the first-ever Bundesliga campaign. Last week, Keven Schlotterbeck became the eighth new face to join the squad — following Julius Kade, Moritz Nicolas, Florian Flecker, Robert Andrich, Anthony Ujah, Marcus Ingvartsen and Sheraldo Becker. Striker Suleiman Abdullahi made his transfer permanent from Eintracht Braunschweig, while Felix Kroos signed a new deal. Eroll Zejnullahu, Marc Torrejon and Fabian Schönheim all left the club and both Berkan Taz and Lennart Moser have signed loan deals with Energie Cottbus until the end of the season.

Brondby have been in Central Europe preparing for their upcoming UEFA Europa League qualifier against Finnish outfit Inter Turku on July 11. Niels Friedriksen's team have added Michael Törnes and Rezan Corlu to their squad during the transfer window but so far haven't been in great form, losing to Lech Poznan and drawing with Wisla Plock.

Meanwhile, Simon Hedlund will be given an official farewell at half-time by 1. FC Union Berlin following his two-year stint with the club. The 26-year-old winger signed for the club in January and scored four goals in the second half of the league campaign.
